Stoicism can be Dangerous!

I've found this article on the BBC website that says "traditional British stoicism is a public health problem in terms of Alzheimer's disease." I think it adds another dimension to the Curzon we see at the beginning of The General, "when the memory of the war is fading" (4).

I actually just wrote a research report on pain assessment in the elderly for a Health Psychology class. Many of the articles referred to stoicism as a barrier when trying to assess pain in older people, not only in cases of Alzheimer's, but with other types of illnesses and diseases as well. It is interesting to note that these studies were not just British. Perhaps there is a connection between the experiences of pain, war(probably WWII now), and stoicism.
